5 Top Tips for Getting Healthy Longer Locks.

5 Top Tips for Getting Healthy Longer Locks.

You want long hair? Well, you gotta work gurl! *clicks fingers, whips ponytail*

It can be a lengthy process and you’ve got to be in it for the long run, but it’s really not a difficult task. Check out my 5 top tips below.

1. I don’t want to bore you, but I’m sure you can guess what I’m going say being a hairdresser and all... The fact is, if you trim your hair regularly, it will remove any damaged or split ends early, before the damage can spread further up the strands of your hair. This will mean that, overall, you will have to cut off less hair.

Here are a few other things that will help you achieve the long hair you’re dreaming of...

2. Natural Oils
The best oil you can use is sebum. Never heard of it? It’s totally free and all the celebs use it. Actually, everybody does because your body produces it! Sounds rank, but basically your body secretes this oil as a protective waterproof layer, most commonly known as grease. Your hair needs it to protect it from everyday life, weather conditions etc. It also contains Vitamin E.

So, how do you cash in on the sebum? Simply brush your hair every morning and night. As the good stuff comes from the roots, brushing your hair not only gets rid of damaging knots but coats the hair in your own hair treatment.

3. Coconut & Moroccan Oil
Coconut Oil is full of all the natural good stuff. Buy it in its purest form, not a shampoo that contains it as its likely to only be a very small percentage. You can get it in nearly all health food shops, it aint cheap but it’s totally worth it.

If you’re up for spending a little more, then I believe 'Moroccanoil' is the Queen of salon professional hair oil. Unlike a lot of cheaper alternatives, Moroccanoil is 100% pure argan oil.

4. Food
What you put in your body can really reflect what we see on the outside. For gorgeous hair, you need a healthy diet rich in protein, iron, vitamin C, Omega 3, Vitamin A and Zinc, so add lots of chicken and oily fish to your diet. If you’re a vegetarian like me, try lots of legumes and pulses. Nuts, carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkins seeds and avocado will all help twoards having healthy glossy locks.

Avoid faddy diets, these are often restrictive not only in calories but in nutrients and your hair can take a battering just as much as the scales. If you do plan on restricting your tummy, feed your hair this lovely dish. Whisk an egg yolk and mix with half a mashed avocado and a spoonful of honey. Massage onto damp, clean hair and leave for 30 minutes before rinsing thoroughly.

Another tip whilst doing a hair mask, give yourself a head massage. This will stimulate blood flow to the follicles, making them happy and encouraging growth.

5. Put Down the Straighteners
Excess heat frazzles your delicate hair cuticles and makes them shrivel up and die! Ok, that might sound a bit extreme, but excess heat isn’t doing it any favours! Try and reduce the time you use your straighteners during the week by blowdrying instead (link to blow-dry) or letting it dry naturally!

This weekend, while your homemade hair mask is on, cook some chicken or Quorn in some coconut oil and whip up some veggies. Before rinsing your mask give yourself a head massage, then let your hair dry naturally….easy peasy!
